In a significant boost to psychological science education, three professors are set to launch groundbreaking projects in Fall 2026, backed by the APS Fund for Teaching and Public Understanding of Psychological Science. These initiatives are designed to enrich the scientific understanding of memory, train university students in clinical intervention techniques, and offer a contemplative approach to therapeutic work with young individuals, fostering an environment of innovation and expanded knowledge.

The APS Fund, established with the generous support of the David and Carol Myers Foundation, plays a crucial role in advancing the teaching and public comprehension of psychological science across the United States, Canada, and globally. It provides grants for innovative projects and supports the annual APS David Myers Distinguished Lecture, highlighting its commitment to educational and public outreach. The fund actively seeks new proposals, with submission deadlines in March and October each year, encouraging continuous development in the field.

Among the latest projects, Elizabeth Kensinger from Boston College is developing webinar modules to teach the psychological science of memory in Senegal and Francophone West Africa, aiming to bridge existing gaps in culturally relevant educational materials. Mark Terjesen of St. John's University is pioneering a training program called ParentTrainer, which uses AI-simulated clients and expert feedback to teach undergraduates evidence-based parent training interventions, addressing the shortage of trained clinicians. Peejay Bengwasan from De La Salle University is introducing 'Through Child-Like Lenses,' a reflective and experiential model for training future psychologists in youth psychological interventions, utilizing a flexible, mobile play therapy laboratory to create adaptable therapeutic spaces.

These initiatives embody a forward-thinking vision for psychological science, demonstrating a profound commitment to educational innovation, global accessibility, and the enhancement of mental health services.
